Genesis 50:19-21 NKJV Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? (20) But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. (21) Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
Even though Joseph had long since dealt with any anger he might have had toward his brothers, they still feared he might hate them and be plotting revenge on them (Genesis 50:15). Because of their fear they sent messengers to lie to Joseph (Genesis 60:16-17) and tell them that their father’s dying desire was that Joseph would forgive them. This deeply saddened Joseph who began to weep, because they had not gotten to know his heart well enough over the last 17 years to realize that they were forgiven and he loved them.
Joseph responded to his brothers by saying, “Fear Not!” Then he eased their fears by speaking to their hearts. He repeated to them what he had said to them 17 years before, that although they meant evil against him, that God used that circumstance for good. He promised to care for them and their children. Genesis 50:21 says his kind words comforted them.
God has spoken many kind words to us. Words that he desires to banish our fears, revive our hearts, and comfort us. God has given us His Word and written His desire for us in order to proclaim His goodness and glory, so that others might come to know Him, yes. But also so that His children would be comforted and walk without fear in a world full of terror, and that actually glorifies terror, fright, and horror. I implore you, don’t read or watch those programs and movies designed to insight fear within you, for God has not given you a Spirit of fear. It will only cause you to walk in more fear. Fear begets fear, but faith begets faith. So pick up your Bible and begin to read His Word of comfort. Then allow the Holy Spirit, the comforter (John 14:16 KJV) to do just that and comfort you with His Word, which dispels fear and Fear Not!
Hebrews 1:1-3 NKJV God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, (2) has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; (3) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
