Fear Not: You’re Standing In Him

Posted by John Smith on June 17, 2011

Exodus 14:10 NKJV  And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes,
and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid,
and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD.

Exodus 14:13 NKJV  And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid.  Stand still, and
see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today.
For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.

The Egyptian army is closing in on the children of Israel, they cried out to God and His response through His servant Moses was to stand still.  Most people would probably scoff and reply, “Stand still… Are you insane?  How can we stand still?  How can we be calm at a time like this?  We can’t just stand here and do nothing.”  Yet, the Word of God for them was to simply stand.  In many circumstances we feel like we must do something, and that’s absolutely right.  Sometimes we are to do something and that something is to simply STAND having confidence in our position in Christ, knowing He will see us through.

Psalm 91:1-16 NKJV  He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  (2)  I will say
of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”  (3)  Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.  (4)  He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your
shield and buckler.  (5)  You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,  (6)  Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.  (7)  A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.  (8)  Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.  (9)  Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place,  (10)  No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;  (11)  For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.  (12)  In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.  (13)  You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.  (14)  “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.  (15)  He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. (16) With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

The 91st Psalm is an amazing portion of Scripture simply overflowing with promises of protection, provision, deliverance, and victory.  It tells us that if we will “…dwell in the secret place of the Most High” or as another version translates, “Live under the protection of God Most High and stay in the shadow of God All-Powerful. (CEV)”, that we can have confidence that God will protect us, deliver us, cause us to be victorious over the enemy and provide for us because He is the very shelter that we will reside in.  Besides that, He dwells in that shelter with us.  Psalm 91:1 in the Message Bible reads, “You who sit down in the High God’s presence…”

How can one just simply STAND and FEAR NOT in the face of adversity or troubling news?  By knowing that God is faithful and remembering that when we stand, we are standing in Him.  You are standing In Him so FEAR NOT!
