Numbers 14:7-9 NKJV and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. (8) If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ (9) Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their
protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them.“
“…Don’t rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the Land….” were the cries of Joshua and Caleb here in Numbers 14. You see the Children of Israel had just sent 12 leaders, a representative from each of the tribes of Israel to check out the land the Lord had promised to them to inhabit. When the 12 returned they brought with them great proof of the fertility of the land. They returned with pomegranates, figs, and a cluster of grapes so huge it took two men to carry it. They even reported on how good the land was confirming that it was everything God said it was. That it was a land flowing with milk and honey (Numbers 13:27). But 10 of them also brought one bad report about the inhabitants of the land. The report came that there were a few fortified cities that the people looked strong, and they saw a couple of giants in the land.
Up to this point the report had been purely factual. But then the report went another direction. The report became laced with
opinion and fear. Remember, fear is an airborne virus. In this case the bad report led to an epidemic with a highly contagious strain of fear that affected nearly the entire Hebrew nation. Yet in the midst of the fear rising up and overtaking the peoples’ emotions, there
were two voices crying out in faith for their people to believe the promises of God.
I believe that in every situation where circumstances, reports, or people are inciting fear, that there is a voice speaking to us trying to
inspire faith. The voice of a friend, reminding you of the promises of God. That friend is the Holy Spirit. Praise God, we’ve got a friend on the inside. And Jesus, Himself, told us that the Holy Spirit would remind us of His Word.
John 14:26 NKJV But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
At that point, we all have a choice to make. To believe the reports of the circumstances, symptoms, and people, or to believe the report of the Lord. Believe the report of the Lord, move forward, inherit His promises and FEAR NOT!
