Be Strong and of Good Courage Pt 1

Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV  Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

The phrase “Be strong and of good courage” is used 10 times in Scripture.  The same idea is conveyed many more times with slight variations to the phrase.  When you see phrases repeatedly used in the Scripture, it is an indicator that it might be something important.  It’s a good idea to stop and look at them.

The first time this is spoken, Moses is announcing to the children of Israel that he is about to die but that God would see them through.  He exhorts them to remember God is on their side and all He’s done for them up to that point.  “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your GOD, He is the One who goes with you.  He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Embarking out into new areas and trying new things can be intimidating to say the least.  The children of Israel were anxious about venturing into this land talked about for generations, but that none of them had ever traveled to.  It had been promised to them by God.  Many had seen, but all of them had heard of the amazing fruit of the land and that it was all God said it would be.  Yet they still had some reservations.  What will the inhabitants be like?  Will they be friends or foes?  How many of them are there and how strong are they?  It doesn’t matter for God is with you, He is the One who goes with you.  He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Whenever you embark into something new like moving to a new neighborhood, starting a new job, heading back to school, transferring to new locations, head to industry conferences, etc… there are opportunities to feel this exact same way.  What will the people be like?  Will they like me?  Will they be for me or against me?  Regardless of anybody else… God is with you.  He will not leave you nor forsake you.  Be strong and of good courage and enter into new situations.  Your promised land is somewhere you’ve never been, but FEAR NOT God will be with you as you enter in.
