Be Strong and of Good Courage Pt 2.
Deuteronomy 31:6-8 NKJV Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (7) Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to inherit it. (8) And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
Deuteronomy 31:3 NLT But the LORD your God Himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy the nations living there, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua will lead you across the river, just as the LORD promised.
Moses just told the Children of Israel that He is going to die and will not be going with them into the promised land. They people were horrified. It had taken Moses years to earn the trust of the Hebrew people and now before they take this huge leap of faith to cross the Jordan into a brand new land with new blessings but also new challenges and new enemies he announces he’s going to die. But before he leaves them, he encourages them to be strong and of good courage because they would not go alone. God would go with them and there would be another to take his place, Joshua.
Joshua would be with them too. There would be someone that Moses had placed his full confidence in as a leader. Joshua was someone whom they could walk with, cry with, rejoice with, and be encouraged by as they were led by God into this new land. NOTE: Moses then turns to Joshua and tells him to be strong and of good courage… Being a leader of people can be tough. Moses took a moment to speak a word of encouragement to Joshua. That would not be the last time Joshua would hear those words.
