Fear Not Condemnation

1Samuel 12:20-24 GNB  Don’t be afraid,” Samuel answered. “Even though you have done such an evil thing, do not turn away from the LORD, but serve him with all your heart.  (21)  Don’t go after false gods; they cannot help you or save you, for they are not real.  (22)  The LORD has made a solemn promise, and he will not abandon you, for he has decided to make you his own people.  (23)  As for me, the LORD forbid that I should sin against him by no longer praying for you. Instead, I will teach you what is good and right for you to do.  (24)  Obey the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. Remember the great things he has done for you.

We’ve all made mistakes.  Each of us painfully knows our own short comings.  George Whitfield, the late 1700’s English evangelist, once said in response to critics, I know worse things about myself than you will ever say about me.”  That’s a quote that anyone of us could probably say.  We’ve all done evil in thought and indeed.  The Bible says, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).

When sin comes on the scene it never comes alone.  Condemnation, shame and fear are always following closely behind.  In those times, do not turn away from the Lord.

1Samuel 12:20 MSG  Samuel said to them, “Don’t be fearful. It’s true that you have done something very wrong. All the same, don’t turn your back on GOD. Worship and serve Him heart and soul!

God is your ever present help in time of trouble (Psalms 46:1).  He is for you and not against you.  Beyond that, He has provided for forgiveness for your sin through the Lord Jesus at Calvary.  So don’t turn away from Him in shame and fear.  He is for you and not against you.  Instead, boldly run to His throne of GRACE where you will find help and strength in your time of need (Hebrews 4:16) and confess your sin to the Father God who is faithful and just will forgive you and cleanse you (1 John 1:9).  Worship Him and remember all that He has done for you.  The Father God is so in love with you and He alone can help us, cleanse us, and strengthen us when we fall short in our walk with Him.  When condemnation, shame and fear grab hold of you, don’t turn away from God; Turn toward Him be forgiven and free from fear.  Fear Not!
