Speak Up and Scare the Enemy

Posted by John Smith on April 27, 2012

2 Samuel 3:11 NASB  And he could no longer answer Abner a word, because he was afraid of him.

After the death of Saul and great controversy arose over who would be king.  Abner the commander of Saul’s army along with most of the rest of Israel followed Ishbosheth, while Judah made David their king.  It would be two years before the kingdom united.

One day, Ishbosheth began questioning and accusing Abner of sleeping with one of Saul’s many concubines.  The accusation was absolutely true, but Abner knew his position of strength as the commander of the army and that he had the loyalty of all the soldiers.  He was incensed because he had supported Ishbosheth and personally saved his life and protected him from being captured by David’s armies, and verbally tore into Ishbosheth.  When he did, Ishbosheth realized he had made a big mistake, shut up and didn’t say another word.

Listen up!  I am not condoning fornication and I’m not condoning sin, but there’s something we can glean here.  Sometimes the enemy comes and makes accusations against us (he isn’t called the accuser of the brethren for nothing).  And he’ll begin to name off and beat you half to death with bad decisions you’ve made and sins you’ve done.  He’ll speak condemnation over you and the next thing you know you are now consumed with shame and fear.  The accusations he’s saying may all be true, but it’s none of his business.  If you are a child of God, then it doesn’t matter what the devil says about you, you are none of his business.  If you have sinned, do what it takes to get right with God and go on (1 John 1:9).  Instead of listening to the devil and letting shame and fear build in your heart, rise up in the authority and position you have in Him and put the devil in his place.

Tell him, “You can’t talk to me that way devil.  I’m a child of God.  I don’t belong to you and I don’t listen to you.  I may have done those things, but it’s none of your concern.  I don’t want what you’re selling.  I’m saved, sanctified and forgiven.  I’m going to talk to God about that right now, then I’m gonna go tell someone about what He’s done for me.  So put that in your pipe and smoke it.”  I’m telling you, if you’ll do that, he’ll shut his mouth real fast.  You’ll put him in his place and he’ll be afraid of you and all you are going to do to erode his kingdom as you expand the Kingdom of God.

You’re a child of God.  You’ve got authority, power, and great influence.  God is on your side.  Remind the devil whose you are, the influence you walk in, and FEAR NOT; the devil will shut up.
