Psalm 14:5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous.
Don’t be like the world. The 14th Psalm begins with the phrase, “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.” This is exactly why non-believers fear. Yet even though they renounce God they really do know He exists and/or are unsure of their disbelief. They see or at least should see that God is with the generation of the righteous. They should see our peace and confidence in Him. That we aren’t terrified by the things going on in the world, but because we walk in His glorious light we see our futures are bright and that everything is going to be alright.
Interestingly enough, the Hebrew in the first part of this verse is the same as out of Job 3:25 where it says, “The thing I have greatly feared has come upon me…” The same phrase pachad pâchad is used in both places, literally “fearing fear”. Those who refuse to believe in Him fear fear, because they are alone and without hope.
In Ephesians 2:12, Paul writes to the church there regarding their condition previous to their belief in Christ, “that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.” The world lives in fear, because without hope and without the God there really is no other alternative. Thankfully they don’t have to stay that way, but can be filled with faith and the glorious hope of the Gospel of Christ.
As Christians, our hope and faith is in Christ. We can walk confidently through life because He indeed is with the righteous. Unfortunately much of our media and news comes through those who don’t walk in the reality of the Lord Jesus. Their writing, their reporting comes through a dismal filter of hopelessness, terror and fearing fear itself. If we aren’t careful to filter their reports through the Word of God and our confidence in Him, their fears will begin to permeate our minds and infect our emotional and spiritual condition.
The world is full of fear because they don’t believe in him. He is with the righteous, so there is nothing for us to fear. Live fearless, walking in His Word and knowing He is for you (Romans 8:31). Don’t allow the fear the world feels influence you. You be the Influence. Let your light, your confidence, and your eternal hope in Him burn bright, so they can see that He is with you. FEAR NOT!
