Psalms 34:4 NKJV I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4 tell us that the Lord has heard us and He has delivered us from all our fears. Note the tense of the verbs there. It says He’s heard and He’s delivered. Those are both in the past tense. That’s because it’s already done. It’s already complete. Jesus has delivered you from ALL your fears. You are FEARLESS.
Fear entered humanity because of sin (Genesis 3:7-10). Prior to the fall of man there was no fear. Think about it. The enemy, “the great dragon… the serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan…(Rev 12:9)” appears in the Garden of Eden and Eve just enters right in to casual conversation with him. Then we see Adam joining the conversation. Though they stood right there face to face with the Devil neither one of them even had a twinge of fear. Unfortunately, neither one of them had any respect for the cunning craftiness of their foe either. That’s what got them in trouble.
Here’s what I want you see. It was sin that made way for fear in the world. Furthermore, it is the problem of sin or a consciousness of sin that allows fear to reign in the lives of so many in the world today.
Fear is talked about being part of the curse for breaking God’s law. Deuteronomy 28:15 records that failing to follow God’s commands and keeping His law would result in a myriad of curses. The extensive list of the penalties for not following the leading and direction of the Lord under the Old Covenant includes fear. Deuteronomy 28:65-67 talks about having a trembling heart, fearing the day, fearing the night and a terrifying fear that grips ones heart and keeps one in persistent and consistent fear.
None of that sounds very good, but the GOOD NEWS is that Jesus has delivered us. Sin was dealt with openly on the cross at Calvary by the Lord Jesus. The Bible teaches us that Jesus became sin for us (2 Cor 5:21). He dealt with sin by becoming sin and paying the price for breaking God’s commands so we would be free from the chains of sin and death (Rom 6:23) to reign in life with Him (Rom 5:17). What’s more, He has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. That includes the curse of FEAR.
Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”), (14) that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
The Lord heard David and delivered him from all of his fears. He also heard you and sent His Son, the Lord Jesus, to be born a man and become a perfect sacrifice, dying on your behalf bearing all sin and the curse of the law in Him so that you would be free. Jesus, God made flesh and co-creator of all things, experienced genuine fear and terror on the cross at Calvary. He did so in order to set you free from all fear. You are FEARLESS!
