Psalm 91:5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
What if you were like SUPERMAN and bullets just plinked off of you like nothing? Knowing that you were in effect bullet-proof, you certainly wouldn’t be afraid of machine gun fire. But that doesn’t mean you’d enjoy being shot at either.
I believe this is how we can walk with Him regarding the arrow that flies by day. Not that I think we are to be physically bullet-proof nor that we would enjoy and look for attacks of any nature, but that we wouldn’t fear them because of our confidence in who He is and our position in Him. Let’s look at those first four verses of the 91st Psalm again using a few different translations to bring some more light to them.
Psalms 91:1 BBE Happy is he whose resting-place is in the secret of the Lord, and under the shade of the wings of the Most High;
Psalms 91:2 AMP I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!
Psalms 91:3 NLT For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
Psalms 91:4 MSG His huge outstretched arms protect you– under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.
Why do you not have to fear the attacks that come against you throughout the day? Because you happily rest in Him (v.1), you completely rely on and trust Him (v2), He is your rescuer and deliverer (3), and He keeps you perfectly safe fending off all harm. Glory!
Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble…” There will be arrows or bullets of life that fly and they will be a nuisance. They will fly and some may even hit their target, but you don’t have to fear because they don’t have to take you down. You can stay happy and confident that He is for you and working to keep you safe. Your job is to stand tall, trust Him, and obey what He tells you to do. Besides some Christians never really taking residence in Him, I think the number one way we get in trouble is the Lord gives us instructions of what to do in our circumstance and we don’t do it. He’s moved over to the place our obedience would take us, but we stayed put and are feeling the effects of the heavy fire.
Stay in Him. Listen and obey. The arrow will fly but IN Him you will not be afraid. Fear Not, you’re bullet-proof!
