Psalm 112:5-8 NKJV A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion. (6) Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. (7) He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. (8) His heart is established; He will not be afraid, Until he sees his desire upon his enemies.
Look at that 8th verse of Psalm 112 again. It tells us that having an established heart is directly related to walking fearlessly in life. Established hearts are not afraid. Now don’t start throwing rocks… that doesn’t mean that if you begin to experience fear that you are some kind of horrible Christian and aren’t established in the Lord. That’s not what I’m saying. The established heart means that you aren’t led or dictated to by that emotions. Instead of acting on the emotion of fear you remain steady because your heart is established in Him and His Word and you act or respond in faith.
Pastor Virgil Stokes of Faith Christian Fellowship of Tucson shared a great message on the “Established Heart” in August of 2013. There is a 2-part series available online at www.fcftucson.org. The following is an excerpt from his notes about the “established heart”.
The word established means to bear up, to sustain and stand fast. It means to be sure or fixed; being firm or reliable so as to warrant security and inspire confidence, or to turn resolutely in a certain direction, to be fixed or steadfastly set on something. So what is the established heart set on?
The established heart is established on the Work of Christ. It is convinced that Jesus doesn’t change nor does any of His precious promises (Heb 13:8-9). It is filled with gratitude and gives thanks for what has already been done for us in Christ (Col 2:6-7).
The established heart is established in intimacy with the Holy Spirit. This is vital as the Holy Spirit in ones heart is the assurance of our salvation and serves as proof of the sincerity of God’s Word that all His promises are indeed yes and amen (Rom 8:14-15, 2Cor 1:20-22). It also recognizes the ministry gifts God has put in the church to receive impartation from in order to remain established (Rom 1:11, Eph 4:11-16).
The established heart is established in love. Love is our sole command from the Lord. Living in love allows us to be confident before Him (1 Thess 3:9-13). It is His love for us that allows us to love others (1 John 4:18-19).
The established heart is relentless and steadfastly set on pursuing the plan of God (Luke 9:51). It sets its face like flint to trust and obey His Word and His plan (Isaiah 50:4-9). And it knows what is truly important focused on the mission to share His glorious gospel and fulfill its function and calling in the Earth (Acts 20:24).
It is the person with an established heart that will not fear. They will not be moved. Establish your heart and Fear Not!
