Proverbs 1:33 NKJV But whoever listens to me (wisdom) will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
(NLT) But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
(GNB) But whoever listens to me will have security. He will be safe, with no reason to be afraid.”
Trust and Obey. Trust and Obey. Trust and Obey. Is that all you ever say, John?
This past year that has been a major theme the Lord has been speaking in our church. It goes right along with another theme that my pastor has focused on and that has been overcoming fear. Proverbs 1:33 is a great text for both. It tells us that you will overcome fear by trusting and obeying His Word.
This Proverb also lets us know that simple adherence to the Wisdom of God we hear will secure us to walk fearlessly through life. However the converse is also true, refusing or ignoring His Wisdom will surely lead one into all kinds of bondage and fear.
Proverbs 1:30-31 tells us in no uncertain terms that ignoring His wisdom and counsel is choosing instead to do what we want. We may couch this as doing what we think is best, but the Word plainly calls this “hating knowledge” (Proverbs 1:29), and that we will experience the fruit of doing things our own way. The rest of the proverbs paints a picture of our fruit as, destruction, insecurity, and fear.
Well, I don’t want fear in my life. For that matter, I don’t want insecurity or destruction either. Praise God, none of us have to experience them. All we have to do is simply listen (trust and obey) His wisdom and He has given us His wisdom written in His Word. Beyond that we have the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Wisdom (Eph 1:17) available to us all the time. In James 1:5, James wrote that if any of us need some wisdom that we can ask our Father and He will generously give us some. It’s the next step that is so simply, yet seemingly difficult for so many. It is to “trust and obey”.
Trust that the Lord is “probably” just “a bit little” brighter than you and that the God who sent His Son to die for you is FOR you, WITH you, & FAITHFUL. That means He’s on your side and has already given you the victory in Christ Jesus. All we have to do is walk the steps that He is ordering before us (Psalms 37:23) trusting in Him and you will be untroubled by fear.
