Proverbs 3:25-26 NKJV Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; (26) For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.
There is a part of this verse I don’t like. I don’t like that it says trouble will come. That word trouble means devastation or tempestuous storms and unfortunately as long as we are here on earth we will have some trouble or “storms of life” blow our way. Jesus, Himself, said so in John 16:33. He said, “In the world you will have tribulation…” Thankfully He didn’t stop there but continued, “…but be of good cheer (be confident, courageous), I have overcome the world.”
In Proverbs 3:25-26 we are told that although none are exempt from having a problem free, trouble free life, we do not have to fear those things when like a tropical storm appear out of nowhere and begin to fiercely blow. Why? Because you can stand fearless and confident in the Lord. “For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.” Let’s look at some other translations of confidence in verse 26.
(BBE) For the Lord will be your hope
(DRB) For the Lord will be at thy side,
(GNB) The LORD will keep you safe.
(NLT) for the LORD is your security.
(ERV) You can trust the LORD to protect you. He will not let you fall into harm.
(MSG) Because GOD will be right there with you; he’ll keep you safe and sound.
Storms of life will come. Cars may have mechanical issues. Sickness may come against family members. Business close down. Food prices fluctuate. People… well, people do things that people do, which can lead to interesting and stormy skies in your life sometimes. But no matter what goes on we never have to fear the reports. We don’t have to fear the situation. Instead we can rest confidently in Him. The Lord is our hope. He is by our side. You can be courageous, because He is your safety, your security and He is trustworthy. He is right there with you in the situation and will protect you. He will not let you fall in to harm. He will keep you safe and sound. The simple thing we are to do is often what is most difficult for people. That is to put our confidence and trust in Him.
Put your confidence in the Lord. He will keep you safe and sound. When trouble comes… keep your confidence and trust in Him. He will see you through. You do not have to be afraid. Simply say, “I will not be afraid. The Lord is my confidence. He is with me. He has brought me this far and He will see me through.”
