Proverbs 29:25 NKJV The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.
There is something freeing about being up high on a hill, mountain, or even a building, and looking down to the valley or people below. It’s a wonderful feeling of being above it all and far removed from the chaos down below.
When I was a 12-15 year old I often found myself frustrated, angry, and scared of all kinds of pressures that many teens deal with. I’d usually retreat to the yard and climb up in a huge Sycamore tree my dad had hung a rope from for me. Up there, looking down on everything I felt at least some sort of peace and would begin to get clarity about what to do next. Once I got my driver’s license I found a “mountain” near my home town (really a man-made pile of dirt next to a lake filling in an old quarry). I’d go up there and look down to escape the turmoil of high school life and make some sense of things. In college, I even sat out on the ledge of a dorm room window sometimes just gazing down and hoping not to get caught, just to feel free from everything below.
Have you ever just wanted to escape from the concerns, worries, pressures, and of course fears of life? Well you can. Proverbs 29:25 tells us that by trusting in the Lord we will be made safe from the fears all around to ensnare us. The margin of my Bible says that the word safe (secure), can literally means set on high. When we put and maintain our trust in the Father God and His Word we can stand secure and experience that glorious feeling of TRULY being above it all.
Ephesians 2:6 tells us that in Christ we have been raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places. All worries and fears are far beneath us and under our feet (Eph 1:20-23). Even though we my physically be at the same altitude, we have been removed from the fears and chaos of everyday life. We are set on high with Him. We are in the world but we really are not of it.
Through our relationship with Him and placing our faith our trust in His Word, we can experience and walk in peace and awe inspiring refreshing that I spoke about as one looks down from a scenic lookout point on a roadway. You have the most incredible view of life available to you. Simply look to Him right now and look at things from the perspective of His throne that you’re sitting in. Soon the fears and pressures will seem like ants far below. Confidence and clarity of what to do next will come. For everyone who trust in the Lord shall be made safe, secure and is set on high with Him. Fear Not!
