198. Bring It On

Posted by John Smith on September 5, 2014

Isaiah 8:10 NKJV Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; Speak the word, but it will not stand, For God is with us.”

Isaiah 8:10 MSG Plan and plot all you want–nothing will come of it. All your talk is mere talk, empty words, Because when all is said and done, the last word is Immanuel–God-With-Us.

When all is said and done the last word is Immanuel, God with us. There were a lot of rumor and even “prophecies” about the Assyrians utterly destroying the Jews. Throughout history many nations and people have attempted to do just that, yet they have proven to be unsuccessful. Though at times there have been great persecutions against the Jewish people and even today they contend with rockets being fired upon them nearly daily and surrounding nations plotting their destruction, this has not, NOR will it occur. They can plan and plot all they want, but it will come to nothing, because GOD is FOR ISRAEL and He will have the last word.

God is for Israel. They are His covenant people. But He’s for you and me too, because we are also His covenant people, and our covenant is based on EVEN BETTER promises (Hebrews 8:6). Just like He will have the last word in whatever gets planned and plotted against Israel, Immanuel, the Lord Jesus has the Last Word in the lives of His New Covenant family. You are victorious In Him.

This is pretty bold language in Isaiah chapter 8. The prophet is basically saying, “Bring it on, do your worst. I dare you, to try.” Why was he so bold to threaten the enemies of Israel to try and destroy them? Because he was confident in their covenant with God and knew He was with them. He goes on in chapter 9 to begin talking about the soon and coming Messiah, who would establish a never ending Kingdom and utterly destroy all those who were bent on destroying them. The faithful word of God and the coming Messiah, who are one and the same, is why he could confidently stand and boldly threaten their enemy. He knew they already had the victory.

Thankfully for us, Immanuel, God with us, has come. Jesus the Word of God, has established a never ending kingdom and has already won the victory over the enemy of mankind (the devil), who is out to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). There is nothing that comes against us that can stand because Jesus is with us. You can be bold and holler at your circumstances just like the prophet did here in this Scripture, knowing you have an even more sure word than he did.

No matter the threats or reports you hear or the circumstances you face. You can stare them down and boldly declare, “I win and have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of my testimony. Jesus is for me and He is with me. He’s already won the victory and given it to me. So, bring it on. When the smoke settles and the dust clears I’ll still be standing here. I cannot be defeated and I will not quit.” God’s already had the last Word. That Word is His Son, JESUS! And He is Immanuel, God with ME!
