Isaiah 14:3 NKJV It shall come to pass in the day the LORD gives you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve,
It is the Lord that gives you rest. One of the definitions of rest is to be free from activity or labor. Another is to have peace of mind or spirit. Doesn’t that sound great?
The Lord gives us rest from many things, thankfully one of them is fear. The rest He gives us provides us with peace of mind concerning things that we’ve feared so we can be freed from the labor of anxiety and worry. And if you’ve ever experienced lingering fear, you know how laborious the stress and strain of its bondage is.
Fear is exhausting. It is mentally, physically, and emotionally draining. Honestly it’s a lot of work and is extremely laborious. Thankfully the Lord has given us rest from the mental anguish of the spiraling thoughts that only serve to increase anxiety and drain us of our physical strength.
Earlier this year our church (www.FCFTucson.org) purchased a wonderful facility to house our services and to house the offices of all the incredible ministries and the amazing people running them that are impacting lives in Tucson and beyond. The Lord was certainly involved in every step of the process and it was supernaturally smooth as we had tremendous favor with the sellers, lenders, title companies, etc… But that doesn’t mean there weren’t moments where I felt my heart beating like a freight train chugging the tracks full speed and felt like someone was laying a heavy load on my shoulders and I’m the Associate Pastor. There was still another person that had even more responsibility in the matter.
Yes there were moments of terror as thoughts regarding the immensity of the project, the finances, and potential for failure would come. In those moments, I would turn to His presence and receive the rest He has given. It is easy to get caught up in the scramble of everyday life, projects, and emergencies, but it is just as easy to walk in His rest. The Lord gives us rest from anxiety and fear. It is up to us to receive it. To do so you must know that it belongs to you and it is His will that you walk in His rest free from worry and fear.
Psalms 23:2 AMP He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
