Isaiah 24:17-18 NKJV Fear and the pit and the snare Are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth. (18) And it shall be That he who flees from the noise of the fear Shall fall into the pit, And he who comes up from the midst of the pit Shall be caught in the snare; For the windows from on high are open, And the foundations of the earth are shaken.
Thanatophobia is an extreme and irrational fear of death that can drive people to cease the normal operation of their lives. There are many different variations of this phobia. One of which is a doomsday phobia about the end of the world. This Scripture in Isaiah 24:17-18 is an Apocalyptic prophecy referring to the end of the age. But this fear is certainly not for us.
There are Christians who fear the return of the Lord and the prophecies in Revelation, Isaiah, Ezekiel and other prophetic books, but they do so needlessly. Jesus came to free us from the fear of death (Heb 2:15). He has welcomed us and made us a part of the family of God (Rom 8:15). We have nothing to fear.
With all the wars, rumors of wars, and terrorist plots being talked about throughout the world, not to mention the rising numbers of natural disasters, we certainly see the Day of the Lord approaching. This is nothing to fear for the Believer. We will be with Him forever. Instead our concern is to be for those who don’t know Him.
We have the answer for their Thanatophobia and doomsday fear. His name is Jesus.
