Isaiah 51:12 MSG “I, I’m the One comforting you. What are you afraid of–or who? Some man or woman who’ll soon be dead? Some poor wretch destined for dust?
Isaiah 51:12 NKJV “I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass?
Notice the emphatic nature of this verse. The Lord is making a point here. “I, even I am He…” or as the Message records it, “I, I’m the One…” God wants to be sure we realize that He desires to more than just protect us, but also comfort us when we are afraid.
The Father recognizes the exhausting emotional trauma that is involved with fear. He loves us. And although He knows and wants us to know that there is never any reason to worry or fear, because He’s for us, with us, in us and faithful, He also knows that sometimes we need more than just His power and strength beating back the attacks of the enemy and destroying our fears. He knows that as we grow in Him and overcome fear to conquer the giants and shake the mountains that may arise before us that there are times we are just drained. Praise God, He is also our comforter.
The Father wants you to know that He is here arms wide open to embrace you and console you in the midst of your fears. Then He gives us that little reminder of who He is in comparison to our problem and encourages us in our race.
This Scripture is an answer to a prayer by Isaiah and it is an answer to our prayers too. God is saying not only do I promise to be with you, help you, and be your strength, I’ll also comfort and love you every step of the way. When your heart is overwhelmed and your faith seems to be failing, remember the Father, He, is the One who comforts you. In His arms, there is no reason to fear.
