234. Katagelophobia – Fear of being Embarrassed

Isaiah 54:4 NKJV “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore.

Isaiah 54:4 MSG Don’t be afraid–you’re not going to be embarrassed. Don’t hold back–you’re not going to come up short. You’ll forget all about the humiliations of your youth, and the indignities of being a widow will fade from memory.

Have you ever had those thoughts that said, “Oh no, they’re all going to laugh at me. I’ll never live this down?” If so then you’ve experienced Katagelophobia. It is the fear of being embarrassed or ashamed.

Thankfully, Isaiah 54:4 lets us know that the Lord doesn’t desire to disgrace us or see us put to shame. He isn’t going to embarrass you. Honestly, I don’t need anybody embarrassing me; I do it enough on my own. But God never wants to see me disgraced or put to shame.

Katagelophobia is often experienced when we are growing into a new position or expanding our current roles within a company. There are new expectations, social cues, different co-workers, clients, larger platforms, higher goals, and the opportunities to fear, but if you’ll trust in the Lord and follow His lead you’ll never be put to shame again.

He will lead you and guide you in all good things. God will never let you down and He with your trust in Him you’ll will NOT be embarrassed or ashamed.

  1. Thanks, John, this is a scripture that I know the Lord is giving me to comfort a person that has asked for prayer. The Lord is good when we don’t know what to look for for comfort for someone. Phyllis
