Zephaniah 3:15-16 NKJV The LORD has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; You shall see disaster no more. (16) In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak.
Zephaniah 3:14-17 MSG So sing, Daughter Zion! Raise the rafters, Israel! Daughter Jerusalem, be happy! celebrate! (15) GOD has reversed his judgments against you and sent your enemies off chasing their tails. From now on, GOD is Israel’s king, in charge at the center. There’s nothing to fear from evil ever again! (16) Jerusalem will be told: “Don’t be afraid. Dear Zion, don’t despair. (17) Your GOD is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you. Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love and delight you with his songs.
Is the Lord with you? Is His presence near? Zephaniah told Jerusalem that when the Lord was in their midst they would have nothing to fear from evil ever again. In fact He told them to celebrate and throw a party because judgement had been taken away and “…the Lord, Himself, the King of Israel will live among you. (Zeph 3:15 NLT)”
The people living in the city of Jerusalem have surely seen many things to fear through the years. There were the Babylonian, Mede, Persian and Roman armies, just to name a few they have seen marched through. In recent times they’ve seen suicide bombers, gunfire fights and random acts of terror with fists, clubs and all kinds of weapons, pipe bombs, rockets, and much more the like. But Zephaniah tells them of a time where fear would be removed from them… The time of their fearlessness would be after the Lord has removed their judgments, cast out their enemy and come to live in their midst. GLORY!
As a Christian, we know that the Lord, Jesus has taken away our judgments having paying the price for our transgressions at Calvary. At His return, the Lord will remove Israel’s enemy (Antichrist and his armies) from Jerusalem and the face of the earth and the Lord will set up an earthly Kingdom living and reigning on earth from Jerusalem. At that time God’s people Israel will know the truth and reality of the Savior and be able to live free from fear, but we don’t have to wait.
You know your transgressions have been removed (Heb 9:15, Gal 3:13). He has cast the enemy out, removing him from power over our lives (Col 2:13-15). And He now ever lives and abides with us and in us by His Spirit (John 14:16-17). Therefore, be happy, celebrate, throw your hands up and shout; Jesus is alive and He’s run the devil out. He’s in charge and He’s in the center of your life forevermore if you’ll let Him be. So there is nothing to fear from evil. Your God is with you. Do not fear.
