Genesis 9:2 NKJV And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
When God created man, He gave man authority in the earth. Man’s job was to tend (maintain, keep subdued, and work) the garden and to keep it (protect the garden from outside assault—there was an enemy). Genesis 2:15 NKJV Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it. That means man had the authority and gifting necessary within himself to maintain and protect the Garden. In Genesis 9:2, God is commissioning Noah and his family to replenish and fill the earth and tells him that all the rest of creation would have a fear of him. God was simply reminding man that he was preeminent of His creation and to walk in the authority given him fearlessly.
God created man to have dominion and rule over creation and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. Genesis 1:26 NKJV Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” When the deceiving serpent, Satan, infiltrated the garden neither Eve nor Adam had any fear of him, because God created us to live fearless of all the rest of His creations including the devil, a created angelic being whose nature changed after being lifted up in pride and attempting to overthrow God (Isa 14:12-15). God gave man authority and never took it back. Adam may have unwittingly submitted himself to the devil, but God still indicated that man had authority when he spoke to Noah in Genesis 9. Then Jesus came and destroyed any grip Satan had over man (Col 2:12-15).
The point is you can FEAR NOT! You were not created to fear. Creation was created to fear you. As my pastor says, “You’ve been given dominion over creeps (Gen 1:26).” That includes the devil and his cohorts. Don’t fear the devil. Don’t fear circumstances. Don’t fear creeps. You are seated with Christ Jesus in heavenly places far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named with all things under your feet (Eph 1:20-2:6). FEAR NOT!
